ITINERARY
DAY 1: Arrive Kilimanjaro international airport / Arusha
Arrive Kilimanjaro international airport, met by your Tanzania Safari representative and transferred by road for about one hour to Arusha town for overnight.
DAY 2: (Monday) Arusha / Katavi
After breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to Arusha airport for the morning Katavi Airstrip. On arrival in Katavi you will be met by the lodge guide and transferred to your lodge where you arrive for lunch.
Afternoon/early evening game drives (if time allows).Return to your lodge and enjoy evening sundowners, arrange by the lodge.
DAY 3: (Tuesday) Full day in Katavi Mbali National Park
After breakfast, depart the lodge for your morning game drive of the Katavi National Park. Return to the lodge for brunch/early lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Afternoon/early evening game drive.
DAY 4: (Wednesday)Katavi National Park
After breakfast, depart the lodge for a full day game drive of the Katavi National Park with a packed lunch. Return tothe lodge in the late afternoon. Evening sundowner, dinner, and overnight at the lodge.An optional night game drive can be arrange and paid direct at the lodge.
DAY 5: (Thursday) Katavi / Mahale
After breakfast, morning vehicle transfer to Katavi Airstrip combined with game drive (if time allows). Board your shared schedule flight from Katavi Airstrip to Mahale Airstrip.
Upon arrival in Mahale, you will be transferred by Dhow boat to your lodge. This adventure transfer takes approx. 1.5 hours. Staff welcome and introductions followed by lunch. Afternoon/early evening chimpanzee trekking or forest walks (if time allows).
DAY 6: (Friday) and DAY 7: (Saturday) Mahale
Spend these two days to explore the Mahale Mountains national park trekking chimpanzees.The forests at Mahale have a wealth of wildlife besides the 1,000 or so Chimpanzees. There are 6 species of monkey (yellow baboon, verve, blue, red tailedAngolan colobus and red colobus), duikers, bush pig, leopard, bushbuck, myriads of birds etc
To get to the only habituated group of Chimps, the M Group,, one climbs up through the mountain forests on a network of simple cleared paths to get into touch with the chimps, and when one does the experience is extraordinary to the point of being bizarre. The chimpanzees go on with their lives – walking, sleeping, fighting, politicking, eating etc. as if you are not there. They take virtually no notice of visitors. This is perfect, because you never feel that you are intruding. After spending the strictly controlled 1 hour with chimps you return to your accommodation facility to wash off the sweat, have a delicious lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure; or perhaps do one of a number of other activities
DAY 8 (Sunday) Mahale
After breakfast, depart for morning chimpanzee trekking. Return to the lodge for hot lunch. Afternoon at leisure perhaps to kayak. Evening sundowners, dinner, and overnight at the lodge.
DAY 9: (Monday) Mahale to Arusha
After breakfast, you will take a Dhow transfer to Mahale Airstrip where you will fly on a shared schedule flight to Arusha. upon arrival in Arusha, you will be met by your Tanzania safari representative and transfer to your hotel for day room. Later in the evening, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro airport for your departure flight.
